Preventative Hygiene Program

  • Regular CU of your gums and teeth every 6 months
  • Regular scale and polish every 6 months by a dentist
  • Daily flossing after each meal
  • Daily mouthrinse with either fluoride supplement or with anti-bacterial chlorhexidine, if required
  • Twice daily toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste
  • Use higher dose of fluoride toothpaste, if required - when you have high decay rate
  • Daily use of interdental brushes after each meal for teeth with large gaps caused by gum shrinking and bone loss

Treatment of Gum Inflammation

  • Gum inflammation is also known as gingivitis
  • Gingivitis is diagnosed by the presence of shallow gum pockets of 4mm or less, gum bleeding and inflamation
  • Regular check-up of all your teeth and gums every 6 months by a dentist Regular professional scale and polish to remove extrinsic stains and calculus every 6 months by a dentist.
  • Daily, consistent, meticulous home care oral hygiene by patients

Treatment of Gum Disease

  • Gum disease is also known as periodontitis
  • Gum disease is diagnosed by the presence of deep gum pockets >5mm and bone loss on XRAYs +/- pus and bleeding on probing or palpation
  • Deep gum clean of deep gum pockets +/- local anaesthesia
  • General gum cleaning
  • Monitor improvement and disease progression with full mouth gum check and charting every 3-6 months
  • Monitor disease progression with XRAYs
  • Daily, consistent, meticulous home care oral hygiene by patients The treatment of gum disease is more expensive and requires a prior diagnosis that is only possible via a thorough oral examination and full mouth gum charting. Therefore, the cost of scale & polish for general gum hygiene, gum inflammation and the treatment of gum disease cannot be given without prior comprehensive CU of all your teeth and gums, regardless of whether you are new or existing patient.
