Diagnosis and Treatment of Snoring and Sleep Apnoea
Diagnosis of sleep apnoea requires a sleep study and report by a sleep medicine specialist.
A referral to a sleep medicine specialist is required from your medical doctor to get Medicare rebate. As part of Medicare reimbursement requirement for sleep study and sleep apnoea diagnosis, your medical doctor needs to answer STOP-BANG, OSA50 or ESS questionnaires.
Alternatively, a dentist can commission a sleep study and report by a sleep medicine specialist. However, any sleep study commissioned by a dentist may not be reimbursed by Medicare but could be partially reimbursed by Health Insurance, if you have paid for its cover.
No dental sleep appliances will be provided by the dentist at Dens in Dente without prior diagnosis by a sleep study and report.
Subsequent follow-ups will be ideally preferred with both treating dentist and sleep medicine specialist.
